They say the only guarantees in life relate to death and taxes, but at Comfort Pros Heating & Air Conditioning we’ll make another guarantee:
At some point in your life, you’re going to need to have your HVAC system repaired.
Although some homeowners think they can DIY this type of repair after they watch a few YouTube videos, this is something we advise strongly against.
One, you run the risk of making what could be a small problem into something that’s much bigger (and as you can imagine, big problems cost more to repair than small ones.)
Two, you run the risk of causing an inadvertent carbon monoxide leak.
Three, unless you have a background in HVAC repair, this is really the type of thing you want to leave to the experts.
But we digress…
Below you’ll find some of the more common reasons you’ll need to contact a HVAC repairman.
You can’t remember the last time you replaced your filter
If you can’t remember the last time you replaced your HVAC air filter, this could cause a fair share of problems.
Remember- your air filter is responsible from removing dust and other types of contaminants from the air in your home. If your filter is very dirty, your HVAC system is going to have to work harder to pump air through it. Not only can this lead to an increase in your heating and cooling costs, it can also put additional strain on the motor. If that strain goes on for too long, your system will eventually malfunction.
It’s getting up there in age
You can think of your HVAC system in a similar way that you think of your car. When it’s new, it’s unlikely to have any problems. When it gets up there in age, you can expect that some things will start to go wrong. Older parts are more prone to failure, after all.
If you’re not sure how old your system is, you can generally determine its age by checking the serial number.
The wires are faulty
When the wires in any electrical system fail you’re going to have some problems, and your HVAC system isn’t an exception to the rule. Faulty wiring can cause a laundry list of problems, from preventing your system from turning on (or off), to creating a potential fire hazard.
